One doesn’t usually think of Seth Meyers, the Saturday Night Live veteran and longtime host of NBC’s Late Night, as a significant MAGA hate figure. Sure, in their late-night perches on CBS and ABC, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel are frequent Trump critics. However, Meyers has drawn Trump’s ire less often.

But that changed this week when Trump went after Meyers on Truth Social. The post was published at 1:24 a.m., indicating that Trump caught the tail end of Meyers’ 12:30 a.m. show.

“How bad is Seth Meyers on NBC, a “network” run by a truly bad group of people,” Trump said in the post. “Remember, they also run MSDNC. I got stuck watching Marble Mouth Meyers the other night, the first time in months, and every time I watch this moron I feel an obligation to say how dumb and untalented he is, merely a slot filler for the Scum that runs Comcast.”

What exactly did Meyers do on his show that upset the incoming president?

Per Raw Story, Trump was reacting to a “Closer Look” segment Meyers did on his show Monday, in which he “mocked infighting in the MAGA movement which has seen allies like Steve Bannon and Elon Musk go head to head.”

Meyers began the segment by stating that we don’t know exactly how Trump’s second term will go since “he has no fixed principles, or core beliefs, or coherent ideas, or constructive solutions, or plans, or proposals, or policies, or values, or thoughts of any kind. He watches TV and then screen-posts about what he just saw on TV.” Trump would prove the last accusation was correct with his Truth Social reaction.

Trump and Meyers do have some history with each other. Most notably, Meyers was the master of ceremonies at the fateful 2011 White House Correspondents Association Dinner, when Trump was in the audience, and then-President Barack Obama roasted him from the stage about his pushing of the birther controversy. When he returned to host Saturday Night Live in 2019, Meyers told a story in the monologue about when Trump hosted the show in 2004, and Trump played his father in a sketch.

“Most people who have pictures of themselves with presidents get them framed,” Meyers said. “I did not.”
