Trump’s Bizarre Mother’s Day Rant Leaves Social Media Stunned

A greeting with grievances

On Friday evening, the president took to Truth Social to honor the mothers of America – briefly – before pivoting to the jobs report, Jerome Powell, and his enemies list, more or less in that order.

“Happy Mother’s Day weekend to all, especially to the 115 THOUSAND AMERICANS who found jobs in the month of April alone!” Trump wrote, extending the holiday’s traditional scope to include the recently employed regardless of gender or parental status.

From there, the post took its usual scenic route.

“As usual, over 90 percent of Bloomberg Economists (nearly all of whom have a ‘Terminal’ case of TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME!) underestimated the strength of the Trump Economy,” he continued. “Despite the best efforts of Jerome ‘Too Late and Won’t Leave’ Powell, and the America Hating Democrat Party, more Americans are working today than ever before. Happy Mother’s Day and, know that, we are MAKING AMERICA WEALTHY AND SAFE AGAIN!”

The jobs numbers were, to be fair, legitimately good. The economy added 115,000 jobs in April, well above the 67,000 projection from economists, while the unemployment rate held steady at 4.3%.

For an administration that has spent months absorbing the economic fallout of an ongoing war, a number that doubles analyst expectations is the kind of thing worth posting about, ideally without the holiday fusion, but here we are.

Still, the upbeat framing left out several details sitting just beyond the graph. Trump did not mention that the Iran conflict has triggered the largest disruption of global oil supplies in modern history. Inflation climbed to 3.3% in March, its highest level in two years and well above the Federal Reserve’s preferred target.

Drivers are noticing the difference faster than economists are charting it. National gas prices are now averaging $4.50 a gallon, up sharply from $3.10 a year ago, while Brent crude has climbed past $100 a barrel for the first time since the conflict began in February.

Trump also made time earlier in the day for a Rose Garden event honoring mothers, where he offered the assessment that motherhood is “not a job” because “when you love it, it’s not a job,” before quickly correcting himself and calling it, “the most important job in America.”

Meanwhile, the backdrop to all of this remains Trump’s increasingly personal feud with Jerome Powell. The president has spent months trying to pressure Powell out of office, despite the fact that the Federal Reserve chair is not legally required to leave simply because Trump is unhappy with interest rates.
