Do NOT listen to any health advice from Trump or his businesses.

President Donald Trump’s golf business promoted a video featuring washed-up professional golfer John Daly this week in which he promoted drinking vodka as a cure for coronavirus, advice that could actually get more people killed.

Trump’s golf empire has been particularly impacted during the pandemic because of social distancing and stay-at-home policies forcing courses to close for the time being. Although Trump is trying to recoup some of that lost revenue by forcing the Secret Service to place emergency orders for golf carts, it’s not enough.

So, in order to keep his courses advertised, Trump Golf is sharing videos featuring golfers like Daly touting them and ensuring people that they will get to play golf again when this pandemic finally subsides.

The problem with Daly’s video, however, is that he promoted a “cure” for the virus by telling people to drink a brand of vodka called Belvedere, which he apparently mixes with Trump’s favorite Diet Coke drink.

“I kind of got a cure for this,” Daly said. “I only drink one drink a day, it just happens to be a bottle of good old Belvedere. You know, you just drink one of these a day — you know, sippy-sippy on a little McDonald’s Diet Coke, you know, wash it down pretty good. Never have a hangover. And that’s the way you kill this coronavirus, I believe.”

Here’s the video via Twitter:

There is no cure for coronavirus at this time. And the idea that alcohol is a home remedy to treat it or prevent it is not backed up by science. In fact, alcohol negatively impacts the immune system, therefore making drinkers more vulnerable to contracting the virus and dying from it.

Alcohol is no better at treating coronavirus than hydroxychloroquine, a drug Trump has repeatedly pushed as a miracle cure. Trump Golf should remove the video or add a disclaimer warning people that alcohol is not a cure.
