I would be cautious, too!

The United States has all but become a third world country as the coronavirus outbreak continues to ravage through our nation, virtually unchecked, with no real end in sight.

According to a new report from Politico, Canada’s top public health officer is now warning that the country should proceed with “extreme caution” in regard to reopening its borders, including the one they share with the United States.

Dr. Theresa Tam was asked to weigh in on Trudeau’s government with her own scientific thoughts related to Canada’s consideration of bilateral, nonessential travel restrictions across the US border.

Tam was quick to note that Canadian lawmakers absolutely must examine other nation’s and their progress in the fight against COVID-19 before allowing them to cross Canada’s international border.

“Of course, the United States being one country that still has cases and is still trying to manage outbreaks… they present a risk to Canada from that perspective,” the doctor stated to reporters in Ottawa. “So, we have to take that into account.”

Tam’s statement comes in the midst of the two nations’ discussion on whether to extend their agreement to lockdown nonessential travel between the two borders for an additional 30 days. Should the agreement not be extended, the travel restriction will be lifted next week.

“As of Tuesday, the U.S. reported 16 times more deaths from COVID-19 than Canada and 19 times more cases, according to the latest figures from the countries’ health authorities. The U.S. population is about nine times bigger than Canada’s,” the Politico report reads.

Tam’s warning is similar to what was released by top public health officials in the US, as well, including Dr. Anothony Fauci who recently said that that “consequences could be really serious” if the lockdown is lifted before states are thoroughly prepared for the increase in infections, during his testimony to Congress.

Both health officials’ statements are in stark contrast to Trump’s devil-may-care approach to reopening.

“Preventing transmission from outside of Canada into Canada once we have controlled the spread within Canada will be an essential part of ensuring that we don’t fall back into a second wave that could be as serious as this wave we’re going through, or even more so,” Trudeau said of the matter.

We’ve clearly reached a point now where the United States is the leper of the rest of the world, and frankly, it’s all due to the fact that Donald Trump dropped the ball.
