Video Of Trump’s Slow Walk Down Air Force One Stairs Sparks Viral Frenzy Online

It took four Obamas, apparently

Donald Trump has spent years criticizing other politicians over physical decline. On Monday, a video showed him taking about four times longer than Barack Obama to descend the Air Force One stairs, and the contrast took over the discussion.

The clip pairs Trump’s slow, careful descent with Obama’s noticeably quicker exit from the same aircraft, looping Obama’s version until Trump reaches the bottom. The video maker’s caption reads: “It took Trump 4 Obamas to gingerly lumber down the stairs from Air Force One.” Trump grips the handrail throughout the walk down the stairs, while Obama appears to descend without needing it.

The history behind the video is what gives it its particular sting. Trump once posted about Obama: “The way President Obama runs down the stairs of Air Force 1, hopping and bobbing all the way, is so inelegant and unpresidential. Do not fall!”

He also spent years using Biden’s stair stumbles as campaign material, telling military leaders in Virginia: “Every day, the guy’s falling down stairs. It’s not our president. We can’t have it.”

Trump has actually addressed his own pace before. He told CNBC’s Squawk Box: “I have to be careful because if I do trip or fall, it’s going to be the biggest story. That’s why when I get out of those planes, I walk nice and slowly. I’m not looking to set any speed records.” He has also said he once admired Obama for “bopping down those stairs,” adding: “I had zero respect for him as a president, but he would bop down those stairs.” The admiration did not extend to attempting the same pace.

The reactions followed familiar lines, with a few surprises mixed in.

Donald Trump turns 80 on June 14, already making him the oldest sitting president in American history, and on Tuesday he heads back to Walter Reed for his fourth publicized medical visit in fifteen months.
