Watch Houston Police Chief Call Out Mitch McConnell, Other GOP Senators For Not Wanting To “Piss Off NRA” In Fiery Speech

This is powerful.

Just this year alone, there have been more mass shootings in the United States than there have been days in the year.

Hundreds of innocent people have lost their lives at the hands of a man with a gun. And instead of taking the guns out of the hands of these people our president, along with countless politicians and Senators have offered nothing more than a few obligatory “thoughts and prayers” as reparations for the blood of inaction and hundreds of Americans that’s on their hands.

And one Houston police chief has had enough.

After one of his own police sergeants was fatally shot when responding to a domestic violence call, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo condemned Republican Senators in a fiery speech for their blind devotion to the NRA and complete disregard for the safety of American citizens — refusing to pass gun reform laws and indefinitely shelving the Violence Against Women Act.

According to a report from The Guardian, Acevedo singled out the likes of Senators Mitch McConnell, Ted Cruz, and John Cornyn, during his blistering deliverance at the press conference, saying he didn’t “want to see their little smug faces [saying] how much they care about law enforcement when I’m burying a sergeant because they don’t want to piss off the [National Rifle Association.]”

“We’ve got to get the Violence Against Women Act acted upon,” the police chief lambasted, speaking on the legislation that first passed in 1994 and was allowed to lapse during the most recent government shutdown. “We’ve got to get in a room. I don’t want to hear about how much they support law enforcement, how much they care about lives and the sanctity of lives.”

“We all know in law enforcement that this is one of the biggest reasons that the Senate and Mitch McConnell, and John Cornyn and Ted Cruz and others are not getting into a room and having a conference committee with the House, and getting the Violence Against Women Act, is because the NRA doesn’t like the fact that we want to take firearms out of the hands of boyfriends that abuse their girlfriends,” he went on.

Acevedo wrapped up his fiery speech by pleading with lawmakers to “make up your minds.”

“Whose side are you on? Gun manufactures? The gun lobby? Or the children who are getting gunned down in this country every single day? In our schools, in our theaters, in our colleges, on our streets, in our homes, in our businesses. Who are you coming to work for?” he questioned.

This is not the first time that Chief Acevedo has called out Republican Senators on their blatant inaction, either — having just recently taken to Twitter to call on the politicians “to lead & get the Violence Against Women Act to President Trump.”

“Unfortunately, important legislation like this has fallen casualty to impeachment mania. We will keep trying to pass a bipartisan bill but it takes two (parties) to tango,” Senator Cornyn replied, prompting the police chief to fight back against the GOP Senator.

Acevedo fired back by criticizing the Senator for continuing to pass other legislation and confirm judges, stating, “Make women and families a priority, like you do the aforementioned.”

Adding, “Don’t tell me, senator, with all due respect, it’s about the impeachment. Because you brag every day, you and Mitch McConnell, about getting judges confirmed. You brag about every piece of legislation you care about.”

Acevedo delivered the blistering remarks just two days after Sgt. Christopher Brewster was shot and killed by a disgruntled boyfriend, armed with two firearms when responding to a domestic violence call.
