World Health Organization Hits Back At Trump After He Threatened To Cut Their Funding Over Their Response To Coronavirus: “Now Is Not The Time”

Take a seat, Mr. Trump.

During narcissistic rage machine Donald Trump’s Tuesday  COVID-19 briefing, he said he’s considering suspending funding for the World Health Organization (WHO), as he expressed grievances with the organization’s handling of the massive coronavirus outbreak. The WHO might have dropped the ball regarding the China situation, but Trump, as usual, has the worst timing in the world. Also, he’s trying to shift the blame for the massive coronavirus outbreak due to his failure to promptly address the issue as the US nears thirteen thousand COVID-19 related deaths.

The organization hit back at Trump after he threatened to withdraw $513 million in funding amid the pandemic. Dr. Hans Kluge, the WHO’s regional director for Europe, defended the organization after Trump’s attack.

“We are now in an acute phase of the pandemic — now is not the time to cut back on funding,” he said.

Kluge was not alone in his thinking.  The UN stepped up to the plate, too.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric rejected Trump’s criticism of the WHO and threw his support behind director-general Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, for his “tremendous work.”

“For the Secretary-General [Antonio Guterres] it is clear that WHO, under the leadership of Dr. Tedros, has done tremendous work on COVID in supporting countries with millions of pieces of equipment being shipped out, on helping countries with training, on providing global guidelines,” he said.

“WHO is showing the strength of the international health system,” he continued.

But Trump is good at one thing: Uniting people against him.

Dr. Bruce Aylward, a senior adviser to Dr. Tedros, also supported the WHO, saying its work with Beijing was important in forming an understanding of the massive outbreak that has brought the world to a standstill.

On Tuesday, Trump lashed out at the WHO in his attempt to deflect the blame for the misery our country is enduring under his dumpster fire of an administration.

“They missed the call. They could have called it months earlier. They would have known, and they should have known, and they probably did know,” Trump told reporters at the briefing. Of course, that ignores the fact that Trump himself golfed and held rallies well after finding out about the spread of the virus.

“We’re going to be looking into that very carefully, and we’re going to put a hold on money spent to the WHO,” Trump continued to say. “We’re going to put a very powerful hold on it, and we’re going to see. It’s a great thing if it works, but when they call every shot wrong, that’s not good.”

Trump’s appalling actions during the pandemic should be an impeachable offense, but we’ve been down this road before.
