Tonight, the country and the world grieves as we process the loss of a true icon and hero, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg — a champion for equality, women’s rights, justice for all, and a staunch detractor of Donald J. Trump.
Reports have claimed that some of Ginsburg’s last words, dictated to her granddaughter in her last days with us on earth, were, “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”
But we are living through some of the cruelest days, under the reign of terror of the cruelest of administrations this country has ever seen.
It took mere moments for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to release a public statement, in which he made it crystal clear that Ruth’s dying words, precedent, and basic human decency mean absolutely nothing to him when it comes between him and doing Donald Trump’s bidding.

As I’m sure we all recall, Mitch had this to say when a Supreme Court vacancy was available during the last weeks of the Obama presidency: “The American ppl should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president.”
However, I was far from surprised yet thoroughly disgusted when I read the Senate Majority Leader’s statement in the mere moments after RBG’s tragic death:

Mitch starts by praising the late Supreme Court Justice, only to turn around and essentially say, “Well, Americans voted for GOP senators in 2018. This is what the people WANT me to do!” Ultimately ending his statement with the words we all knew were coming, “President Trump’s nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate.”
This is coming from the guy who physically bellowed with laughter as he bragged about blocking Barack Obama’s SCOTUS nominees.
This isn’t even thinly-veiled racism. This is blatant, nasty, putrid, proud racism.
I hope it’s worth it, Mitch. November is just around the corner. And Donald Trump isn’t the only one on the chopping block.
