Ex-President Donald Trump is facing down legal woes by New York prosecutors from pretty much every angle at this point, and that sort of legal trouble doesn’t come at a small price. But according to a new report from the Washington Post, he’s not tackling those mounting costs all alone. Apparently, the Republican National Committee is helping foot some of the former guy’s ever-increasing, personal legal bills.

WaPo reports that the RNC “is paying some personal legal bills for former president Donald Trump, spending party funds to pay a lawyer representing Trump in investigations into his financial practices in New York.”

To get more specific, the Republican National Committee reportedly made a total of more than $120,000 in payments to the law firm of Ronald Fischetti just last month alone. The law firm was hired by ex-President Donald Trump back in April.

The RNC gave a statement to the Post in response to the report and was quick to defend its decision to foot some of the bills for the former guy’s mounting personal legal expenses.

“As a leader of our party, defending President Trump and his record of achievement is critical to the GOP,” the committee said in their statement. “It is entirely appropriate for the RNC to continue assisting in fighting back against the Democrats’ never-ending witch hunt and attacks on him.”

The ex-president’s businesses are currently under a mountain of scrutiny from New York Attorney General Letitia James as well as Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. Just earlier this year, longtime chief financial officer of the Trump Organization, Allen Weisselberg, was officially indicted on charges of tax fraud. However, thus far, the ex-president himself has yet to have any criminal charges officially leveled against him.
