‘A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing’— Why This Trump-Voting Veteran Now Feels Betrayed

There are more signs that Trump's 2024 coalition is falling apart.

The latest AP/NORC poll shows more warning signs for Donald Trump, including signs that the coalition that elected him in 2024 is fracturing.

Also, Trump’s approval rating on the economy is all the way down to 30 percent, from 38 percent the month before. Overall, just 33 percent of all U.S. adults approve of the president.

“The findings from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research show a president who is struggling with unfulfilled promises to tame inflation and testing Americans’ patience with a conflict in the Middle East that has dragged on longer than expected,” the AP account of the polling results says.

The AP account also quoted Kathryn Bright, a 60-year-old retired U.S. Air Force captain, as having lost support for the president.

“I feel disgusted with myself, I feel betrayed, like he was a wolf in sheep’s clothing,” Bright told the AP of Trump.

Bright, who lives in Colorado, had an analogy for what Trump promised.

“It’s like high school class president: ‘I’m gonna promise we are going to get pizza every single day,’” Bright told the AP. “Then as soon as they get elected they are like, ‘Oh, I lied.’”

Trump has also, it appears, lost a lot of young Republican support.

“Younger Republicans are particularly unhappy. About 6 in 10 Republicans under 45 disapprove of how Trump is handling costs, compared to about 4 in 10 older Republicans,” the AP account said.

However, Trump remains popular among self-identified “MAGA Republicans.”

“Most Republicans who identify as supporters of the Make America Great Again movement are still largely behind the president. About 9 in 10 MAGA Republicans approve of Trump’s job performance, compared to 44% of non-MAGA Republicans, although only about 7 in 10 MAGA Republicans approve of him on cost of living.”

The RealClearPolling average, meanwhile, has the president with an average approval rating of 40.5 percent, and disapproval of 57.6 percent, with every poll listed showing Trump underwater.
