Black US Army Cadets Attending West Point Claim They Were Called The N-Word For Reporting Discrimination At The Academy

This makes me sick.

Donald Trump has always been a huge fan of the West Point Military Academy — even going so far as to pitch quite a hissy fit when he thought he wouldn’t be able to give his speech there and ultimately forcing all of the students to come back so he could, resulting in several of them getting infected with the potentially deadly coronavirus — and now it seems as though we may know why he’s so fond of the military school.

They seem to be just as racist as he is.

According to a sickening new report, several black cadets at the United States Military Academy at West Point claim that they were the victims of racially-charged harassment and were treated like a joke when they attempted to report the incidents to higher-ups at the renowned military academy.

A startling 40-page policy proposal, complete with testimonies from the black students, was put together by a group of US Army officers who were all recent graduates and/or student leaders at West Point, to address the failings by the school in “uprooting the racism that saturates its history” and calling on the institution to remove honors for Confederate soldiers.

First Lieutenant Simone Askew, the first Black female to become West Point’s First Captain and a Rhodes Scholar, wrote in the letter that she found a note that had been slipped under the door of her room that featured “a picture of me holding a rifle, photoshopped with a monkey’s face.”

“Though I was aware of the historical precedence of portraying Black people as monkeys, I wondered if the depiction suggested something deeper about my leadership,” she penned in the letter. “Racing through my mind were all the presentations and conversations that I had given in the past 14 days as First Captain and whether I had made any mistakes.”

Adding, “This self-interrogation fueled in me a paralyzing fear.”

“I was called a ‘n—-‘ during my freshman year at West Point,” another person wrote. “I was told that I was going to rob someone because I was Black. A student made a noose and put it on his Black roommate’s desk as a joke. I was called ‘white’ because I speak intelligently, which is built on the assumption that white people speak better than Black people. These are just a few of many examples.”

Folks, this a prime example if ever there were one of the racism that still exists in every corner and crevice of this country. I don’t give a damn what Donald Trump says.
