CNN Reports That Source Close To Trump's Legal Team Said Trump Was "Pleased" That Witnesses Weren't Called During Hearing

House impeachment managers, former President Trump’s legal team, and top senators struck a deal on Saturday to let the Senate bypass calling witnesses in what can only be described as Democrats caving to Republicans. Democrats cleared the first witness vote and then somehow decided that they wouldn’t call witnesses.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the lead House impeachment manager, requested to depose Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-Wash.) after she revealed that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy told her that former President Donald Trump sided with the Capitol rioters when the MAGA crowd stormed the building. Herrera Beutler tweeted out some information and urged other “patriots” to come forward and testify against Trump. But all of that went in the shitter when the Democrats decided against calling witnesses.

Instead, Democratic leaders said they would have no problem incorporating Herrera Beutler’s written statement into the official record. That decision just didn’t make any sense, but here we are.

And Trump seems very happy with that news, and his legal team sees it as a “victory,” according to CNN’s Jim Acosta.

According to a source close to Trump legal team, the former president is pleased there won’t be witnesses at the trial.
The source added that the legal team views the democrats‘ decision to not call witnesses as a clear victory.

I think most of us that are grounded in reality are well aware that Republicans won’t vote to convict Donald Trump, who was impeached for inciting the deadly insurrection on Jan. 6. Republicans seem to have lost their collective spine and seem to fear the former president. Perhaps Democrats were trying to avoid the inevitable circus. Still, at this time, just for once, we need to see an influential person held accountable for their own actions after Trump forced the country to go through another national crisis simply because he sustained a massive narcissistic injury.

If Trump is not convicted (he won’t be convicted), Democrats should toughen up and invoke the 14th Amendment to keep Donald J. Trump from ever holding office again. He’s proven himself to be far too dangerous for that.
