Things just aren’t going well for the Republican Party these days, after four years of total hell under the reign of Donald Trump and that whole pesky violent insurrection thing. Now, according to a new report from the New York Times, South Carolina Senator and Trump sycophant supreme is planning to meet with his former dear leader soon in an attempt to save what little skin his party has left.
Graham revealed his plans to speak with the former president to reporters last night, saying that the meeting would likely happen in the coming weeks.
POLITICO reports that the intent of the conversation will be to persuade Donald Trump to help the GOP work their way back into the majority in the House and the Senate in 2022.
Senator Graham told reporters, “I’m going to try and convince him that we can’t get there without you, but you can’t keep the Trump movement going without the GOP united.”

“If we come back in 2022, then, it’s an affirmation of your policies,” the South Carolina senator added. “But if we lose again in 2022, the narrative is going to continue that not only you lost the White House, but the Republican Party is in a bad spot.”
According to the report from the New York Times, Graham went on to warn Donald Trump that attacking his enemies certainly won’t go far in securing any future elections in the GOP’s favor.
“If it’s about revenge and going after people you don’t like, we’re going to have a problem,” Graham stated.
Reports have indicated over the last few weeks that Trump may be in talks of creating his own political party with the intent of going after and Republican senators who vote to convict him in his impeachment trial. The Washington Post reports that Trump has been discussing the use of the “Patriot Party” to pressure GOP senators to vote to acquit him.
While it’s clear that many members of the GOP are still devoutly devoted to Donald Trump, it’s also clear that they’re beginning to see how poisonous he is to their party, and it’s time to decide if they’re willing to go down with the ship.
