Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who has resisted a mask mandate, tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday despite being vaccinated. The disease has been ravaging Abbott’s state, and yet, he has refused to fight against the virus, and that seems to be the trend with Republican governors for some reason.
“The Governor has been testing daily, and today was the first positive test result,” his office said in a statement. “Governor Abbott is in constant communication with his staff, agency heads, and government officials to ensure the state government continues to operate smoothly and efficiently. The Governor will isolate in the Governor’s Mansion and continue to test daily. Governor Abbott is receiving Regeneron’s monoclonal antibody treatment.”
There is a bigger problem, though. The reason that most of us are happy to wear a simple protective face mask is to protect the people around us. That is too much to ask of a lot of Republicans who have become defiant over simple guidelines. Abbott is one of those people.
The day before testing positive for the novel coronavirus, Abbott shared a video and photos of a crowded event he attended. The crowd appears to be mask-less at the Republican Club at Heritage Ranch meeting on Monday.

Only remaining questions are how many of these unvaccinated Republicans did Greg Abbott kill last night and how many people will they kill in Collin County? https://t.co/34UxOqDLdV

Turns out, it is now a potential super-spreader event. Way to go, Abbott.

According to the statement from his office he is resting at the Governor’s mansion and receiving monoclonal antibodies. All while his hospitals run out of room. It’s good to be the king. 😏

park them in front of the governor’s mansion, where abbott has tested positive and is currently relaxing without any severe symptoms while getting top dollar medical treatments that are unavailable to the people who he told to go out and live their lives unmasked https://t.co/LTNKXBiYbQ

What a shameful lack of leadership from Republicans amid the pandemic that has taken over 600,000 American lives.
