New Orleans Attack: FBI Investigates Terrorism Connection
A horrific attack on New Year’s Eve in New Orleans has left at least 10 people dead and more than 30 injured. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar, drove a rented Ford pickup truck into a crowd celebrating on Bourbon Street, according to law enforcement officials. Jabbar was killed by police after exiting the vehicle and engaging in a shootout, leaving two officers injured but in stable condition.
Terrorism Links Investigated
Authorities have labeled the attack as intentional, with New Orleans Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick stating the suspect was “hell-bent on creating carnage.” The FBI revealed that an ISIS flag was found inside the truck, alongside firearms and an improvised explosive device (IED). Additional potential explosives were discovered in the French Quarter, intensifying concerns about broader planning.
The FBI is actively investigating Jabbar’s potential ties to the Islamic State group or other terrorist organizations. Jabbar is a U.S. citizen from Texas. A photo shared on social media allegedly shows Jabbar wearing camouflage next to the truck shortly before he was neutralized. According to sources cited by FOX News, authorities are looking into the possibility that four or five other individuals may have been involved in planning the attack. Investigators are still working to establish a clear motive, but the FBI has formally classified the incident as an “act of terrorism.”

Witnesses described scenes of chaos and devastation as Jabbar drove into the dense crowd, with one attendee recounting the horrifying sight of bodies strewn across the street. Chief Kirkpatrick emphasized the deliberate nature of the attack, saying, “He was trying to run over as many people as he could.”
