With the recent release of the Trump White House phone logs to the January 6th House Select Committee, by the National Archives and thanks to the Biden administration, the House panel that is currently investigating the violent, infamous January 6th Capitol attack has been working diligently to reconstruct the final call Donald Trump made to his then-Vice President Mike Pence on that fateful day, just before his supporters violently stormed the Capitol building in his name, in an effort to stop the certification of the Electoral College votes that would officially declare Joe Biden the winner. However, as it turns out, the information that the House committee has access to regarding that infamous call is actually missing a key piece — and apparently, it’s something only Mike Pence himself can provide.

According to a new POLITICO report, new court documents indicate that the committee “has obtained significant details about that call” and “in recent weeks, they’ve learned even more from several high-profile witnesses who were in the Oval Office while Trump berated Pence for refusing to overturn the election.”

However, the panel has run into an issue because that call was not conducted over speakerphone, meaning none of the people who were in the room with then-President Trump were able to hear what Mike Pence said in response.

To make matters worse, it seems as though Pence may have been alone on his end during the call, as Pence’s aides from the time say there were not in the room with the Vice President during the phone conversation, and he never went on to speak with them about his conversation or interactions with Trump during the infamous call.

As it stands, according to the report, it’s not likely that the House Select Committee will issue a subpoena against the former vice president. However, it’s certainly a possibility that they will ask him to give his testimony voluntarily.

But nevertheless, POLITICO reports that the panel has obtained what they describe as a “consistent account” of the notorious phone call from multiple witnesses who were in attendance at the time it took place.

“Witnesses described the conversation as beginning relatively pleasantly, with Trump embracing the legal advice he was given about Pence’s ability to send the election back to the states,” POLITICO reports. “Although people in the Oval Office couldn’t hear him, Pence had clearly rejected Trump’s entreaties, the person indicated. Witnesses have said listeners in the room were surprised because it was the first time they recalled Pence saying no to Trump. The call deteriorated and Trump grew frustrated.”
