President Joe Biden responded to reports of an excerpt from a forthcoming book from Donald Trump’s former chief of staff, Mark Meadows. In the book, Meadows claims that the former president tested positive for Covid-19 three days before his first debate against then-candidate Joe Biden — but went ahead with the debate anyway without telling his opponent of the risks. Meadows recalls in the book that though he knew each candidate was required “to test negative for the virus within seventy-two hours of the start time … Nothing was going to stop [Trump] from going out there.”
White House correspondent for the New York Times, Michael Sheer, tweeted following the news on Wednesday that “Hours after he received the call from Meadows informing him of a positive test, Trump came to the back of AF1 without a mask and talked with reporters for about 10 minutes. I was wearing a mask but still got COVID, testing positive several days later.”
Yeah, so this is a pretty big deal, and you’d think that President Biden would be angry, but he decided to throw a little shade instead.
“Mark Meadows has written a book revealing that President Trump tested positive for COVID a few days before your first debate,” ABC News’ Mary Bruce asked Biden after the president delivered remarks on the economy and supply chain issues on Wednesday. “Do you think the former president put you at risk?”

Biden took a moment before smiling, then just said: “I don’t think about the former president. Thank you.”
At that point, President Biden waved goodbye to the reporters and walked away without answering a reporter’s shouted follow-up question about the news of Trump testing positive before the debate.
