Just When You Thought Things Couldn’t Get Any Worse For The Ex-President, Report Reveals Head Of Trump’s Secret Service Detail Has Spoken With House Committee About January 6th

Oof. That's a doozy, Donnie.

Just earlier today, we reported on the bombshell news that the January 6th House Select Committee is still in deep negotiations with several key Trump administration witnesses with regard to delivering what will undoubtedly be a series of damning testimonies regarding the Capitol riot and Donald Trump’s role in it during the upcoming, highly-publicized hearings.

But according to brutal new reporting (for Trump, anyway) from Politico’s Betsy Woodruff Swan, there is at least one key Trump insider who has already told their story to the House Panel in connection to their investigation against the ex-President, and frankly, there are very few other people we can think of that would be as close to Donald Trump on a day to day basis as this guy — the head of Donald Trump’s Secret Service detail.

The Washington Post recently revealed that Donald Trump’s Secret Service detail was forced to scramble when Trump suddenly requested a motorcade to transport him to the scene of the Capitol riot on January 6th, 2021, after promising his supporters that he would march with them to the Capitol building following his now-infamous Stop the Steal rally. But now, Politico reveals that agent Robert Engel, who serves as the head of the ex-president’s protective detail, has already provided the House Select Committee with invaluable information from that fateful day.

Woodruff Swan reports that Engel was “the special agent in charge on Jan. 6, 2021, meaning he was responsible for protecting the president from ‘socks on to socks off’ — the whole work day. In that role, he rode from the White House to that day’s ‘Stop the Steal’ rally with Trump in the presidential armored car called ‘The Beast.'”

She goes on to note that the House Panel asked him for specific details about January 6th, 2021, and “how the Secret Service handled the day’s chaos.”

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Secret Service confirmed the meeting between Engel and the House Committee, stating, “Every single member of the Secret Service who was requested by the committee has been provided to them. We fully support and are cooperating with the committee’s work. Employees, documentation, whatever is requested by the committee, we have cooperated with.”

Just keeps getting worse, huh, Donald?
