The almost always fact-resistant Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert was at it again today on social media and you have to wonder what the heck is wrong with this chick. She’s always offering fact-free evidence. This includes last September when she pushed unverified claims that a gang of undocumented immigrants was “taking over” apartment complexes in Aurora, Colorado.
Police and other law enforcement officials have refuted this claim, which kept popping up on social media that gangs were taking over apartment buildings in Aurora, a suburb of Denver. Aurora police have persistently denied this and The Associated Press reports that city officials have said the buildings are in poor condition due to neglect by property managers. But as we all know Boebert and her fellow Republicans are immune to logic and they have kept parroting the gang line, and this even includes the equally fact-resistant Donald Trump who asserted gangs “were taking over the whole town.”
This time, she’s kvetching about how the government would somehow favor Ukraine over families impacted by Hurricane Helene. She and GOPers have been targeting the Biden administration over its support of Ukraine, so this is par for the course.
“If a hurricane hit Kyiv, they’d be giving out $750 a second.”
“Not per family,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Not per family.

I tell you, she’s such a card, that woman.
Her odious comment caught the attention of other social media users who already understand her ignorance of the facts. So they set about correcting her.
@herotimeszero quipped: “After writing that post, Boebert asked, ‘Kyiv is in California, right?”

@JaredRyanSears informed people what that $750 was really for.
“Always lying about every situation, even when Americans are in need. Despicable. The $750 is one form of relief that is set up as a quick grant that allows people to buy groceries, baby supplies, and emergency items. Other grants are available for rebuilding homes, replacing property, and paying for a place to stay while everything is being taken care of.”

@mrnaeem set Boebert straight on her apples vs. oranges commentary.
“Kyiv Is 833 mi away from the Black Sea
There’s never been a hurricane in the Black Sea
You’re talking about an apocalyptic event
BTW had you voted yes on the continuing resolution then FEMA wouldn’t be running out of money and resources
#MAGAIsACancer”

And um, well, there’s this from @Lawndinium, who observed:
“And yet a foreign Olympic athletes rejected your funding.”
“If only lying and stupidity were an Olympic sport you’d win. Hands down.”

Ouch!
@nanetteconvos reminded the GOP Colorado Rep. of a few other facts.
“Hey dummy. What the fuck is sending weapons to Ukraine have to do with money go Americans? You understand we don’t send Ukraine a giant box of money, right? Just our weapons. If you think Americans affected by the hurricane should get the same benefits send all those that lost their homes and personal belonging Stinger missile launchers and F-16s fighter jets.”

Of course, Boebert is up for reelection in 2024 and jumped from her former district where she knew she was likely to lose to another district where her chances looked a bit better. So maybe she’s a bit worried. I really don’t know what her problem really is, other than raw ignorance. The worst thing about her misrepresenting facts is that she does it with an air of authority and there are too many dumbbells out there who take her seriously.
No wonder Donald Trump likes her.
