Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) enables President Donald Trump in the pursuit of his own sinister conservative agenda, but even he apparently “can’t stand” that Trump is like accused sexual predator Roy Moore and has called him “nuts” in private.
McConnell has spent Trump’s presidency mostly focused on stacking the courts with conservative judges regardless of whether or not they are qualified to sit on the bench, all while refusing to bring up any legislation passed by the House up for a vote. He even brags about being the “grim reaper” of Congress and promises to do more of the same in years to come if he isn’t stopped in November.
In public, McConnell stands proudly next to Trump and does anything he can to protect him, including rigging the impeachment trial earlier this year.
But McConnell reportedly feels differently about Trump in private, according to The New Yorker:
Although the two men almost always support each other in public, several members of McConnell’s innermost circle told me that in private things are quite different. They say that behind Trump’s back McConnell has called the President ‘nuts,’ and made clear that he considers himself smarter than Trump, and that he ‘can’t stand him.’ (A spokesman for McConnell, who declined to be interviewed, denies this.)”

And McConnell knows exactly who Trump reminds him of: Roy Moore.
Moore is a conservative extremist who unsuccessfully ran for a Senate seat in Alabama. He has been accused of being a sexual predator, much the same as Trump has been.
According to one such acquaintance, McConnell said that Trump resembles a politician he loathes: Roy Moore, the demagogic former chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, whose 2017 campaign for an open U.S. Senate seat was upended by allegations that he’d preyed on teen-age girls. (Moore denies them.) ‘They’re so much alike,’ McConnell told the acquaintance.”
Obviously, however, the similarities are not enough for McConnell to grow a spine and do the right thing for the country. We are a country under the control of an unhinged abuser. And McConnell does not care as long as Trump continues giving him what he wants in return.
