The House select committee investigating the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol said it is preparing to hold Trump’s former chief of staff Mark Meadows in criminal contempt for not complying with the panel’s subpoena, The Washington Post reports. And now Meadows is suing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Jan. 6 committee members, according to Politico.

“The former White House chief of staff has filed legal action against Pelosi, according to court records,” the outlet reports. “As the Jan. 6 select panel prepares to take action against him, Meadows has claimed he can’t discuss matters that could be covered by executive privilege.”

“But the panel has rejected that claim, noting that President Joe Biden has not asserted privilege to block Meadows’ testimony,” the report adds.

Meadows initially cooperated with the House select committee, then he put the brakes on and is no longer cooperating.

Meadows’s attorney sent a letter to the panel, CNN reports.

“We agreed to provide thousands of pages of responsive documents and Mr. Meadows was willing to appear voluntarily, not under compulsion of the Select Committee’s subpoena to him, for a deposition to answer questions about non-privileged matters. Now actions by the Select Committee have made such an appearance untenable,” the letter from George J. Terwilliger II stated.

“In short, we now have every indication from the information supplied to us last Friday — upon which Mr. Meadows could expect to be questioned — that the Select Committee has no intention of respecting boundaries concerning Executive Privilege,” Terwilliger added.

It certainly looks like Meadows has something to hide.

What a disgrace. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was grilled for eleven hours without breaking a sweat.
