The widespread investigation into Donald Trump’s taxes and finances is going from bad to worse, at least for the ex-president.

According to a new report from Reuters, the criminal probe that’s currently being conducted into Trump’s business dealings by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance is now reaching a new, crucial phase and not only is potential serious trouble for the former president but reportedly for a wide scope of his associates, as well.

Reuters reports that prosecutors are currently “combing through millions of pages of newly acquired records with an eye toward identifying witnesses who can bring the documents to life for a jury.”

One source told the publication that “the next phase is identifying targets” for possible subpoenas as investigators attempt to determine whether or not the former real estate mogul turned President committed fraud in an attempt to lighten his tax bills.

The scope of their investigation is reaching so far and wide now that Reuters reports “a growing universe of people, institutions and agencies are being scrutinized by Vance’s prosecutors as potential witnesses in the case.”

Prosecutors are currently conducting an essentially nationwide investigation into Donald Trump’s finances with attorneys working for Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance telling the courts that they are working to determine if the former president lied about the value of his properties in an effort to change the amount of taxes he would owe on them, ultimately committing tax fraud.

In the last few weeks, Vance’s office has subpoenaed financial documents connected to a Chicago skyscraper built by Trump, in addition to records of local government meetings in relation to his ultimately failed efforts to develop the Seven Springs estate in Westchester County, New York. The spread from New York to Chicago serves as a good indicator that the investigation is reaching out into potential widespread, nationwide fraud by the former president across his entire real estate empire.

At present time, DA Vance and his office have yet to charge Donald Trump with any crimes.
