As Floridians are suffering from a recent COVID-19 outbreak, driven by the rapid spread of the omicron variant, Gov. Ron DeSantis decided to take a vacation. Meanwhile, DeSantis has not held a COVID-19 briefing since Dec. 17. In November, DeSantis signed four bills curtailing both mask and vaccine mandates. It’s as if the Republican governor isn’t even trying to keep residents in his state safe.
Newsweek reports that a banner flew over Miami and South Beach Thursday, reading, “Florida is on fire and Ron is missing.” The Remove Ron political advocacy group paid for the banner showing the message being flown in black lettering across the sky.

Twitter users are wondering where DeSantis is.
Ron DeSantis has been AWOL for 14 days
Cancelled his Cabinet meeting & haven’t been seen since Dec 17
Meanwhile there is not a single state testing site in all of Florida and Covid cases have increased by 1000%
But he plans to attend a football game tonight. Priorities, right?

Got this message👇🏽 from a friend about the situation at a hospital in my district👇🏽
And where’s Ron DeSantis? Nowhere to be found!
With longer testing lines & more positive cases than EVER Floridians need a Governor that won’t hide in a crisis.
We must remove Ron next Year! pic.twitter.com/N4gICJtWUp

Florida has been on fire for 2 years now and he hasn’t done anything about it. So what does it matter where he is ? I mean it’s not like he’s suddenly gonna care if ppl get Covid now That ship has sailed

Christina Pushaw, DeSantis’s press secretary explained his absence by saying that the governor “has a wife and 3 kids ages 1-5, and it’s not surprising if he wants to take a few days off at Christmas to spend time with his family, especially as his wife is battling cancer.” Still, COVID is spiking in the Sunshine State, and he is the governor.
