Florida doesn't seem to have a governor.

As Floridians are suffering from a recent COVID-19 outbreak, driven by the rapid spread of the omicron variant, Gov. Ron DeSantis decided to take a vacation. Meanwhile, DeSantis has not held a COVID-19 briefing since Dec. 17. In November, DeSantis signed four bills curtailing both mask and vaccine mandates. It’s as if the Republican governor isn’t even trying to keep residents in his state safe.

Newsweek reports that a banner flew over Miami and South Beach Thursday, reading, “Florida is on fire and Ron is missing.” The Remove Ron political advocacy group paid for the banner showing the message being flown in black lettering across the sky.

Twitter users are wondering where DeSantis is.

Christina Pushaw, DeSantis’s press secretary explained his absence by saying that the governor “has a wife and 3 kids ages 1-5, and it’s not surprising if he wants to take a few days off at Christmas to spend time with his family, especially as his wife is battling cancer.” Still, COVID is spiking in the Sunshine State, and he is the governor.
