Trump Embarrassed By Fly Live On-Air As Health Concerns Continue To Swirl

The buzz wasn't the fly

A fly landed on Donald Trump’s head during the G7 closing press conference on Wednesday and stayed there for roughly a minute while he talked about the word “affordability” being a Democratic invention.

When Trump finally swatted at it, he missed. “I wanted to get that little sucker,” he told the assembled press corps and world leaders. “But I missed. I hate missing.” The fly departed on its own terms.

That was the lighter half of the afternoon.

Fox News halted its regular programming to broadcast Trump’s closing G7 remarks live, breaking into Outnumbered and America Reports to air what turned out to be a deeply unusual press conference. The viewers who tuned in spent less time discussing the Iran deal and more time discussing what they were hearing through the microphone.

Trump’s breathing was audible throughout, deep breaths through his mouth and nose that carried clearly on air. His delivery was slurred and nasal, and the remarks moved from Iran to drug cartels to Mexico to affordability to the stock market without obvious connective tissue. It was, in the generous reading, a wide-ranging speech.

In the less generous one, Lewis Goodall of The News Agents called it “largely incomprehensible in a rambling set of remarks at the G7.”

The Fox News comment section, not typically a space for presidential health criticism, had a moment. “OMG – I am Watching President Trump – he is very sick. He can hardly breathe, look on the verge of collapse. He needs to get some badly needed medical attention NOW!!” one viewer posted.

A second wrote: “Holy hell he can hardly breathe. No wonder he sits down for all his appearances. The dude is in horrendous shape.”

A third took a softer line: “Dear President Trump please, please get some REST and give Marco Rubio rest too. You both look tired we love you both for along time.”

Those with less affection had other observations.

Filmmaker Steven DeKnight wrote: “Trump in the G7 presser is rambling, delusional, and completely disconnected from reality. ‘The word affordability is a fake word made up by the Democrats.’ What a pathetic old man.”

One viewer zeroed in on Rubio’s expression behind the podium: “Look at Marco Rubio, it seems he can’t wait till Trump is done.”

Another offered a different theory entirely: “I want whatever psychedelic narcotic Trump is on. I wish we could see what Rubio and Lutnick are thinking while he is rambling.”

Wednesday closed out a summit that had been generating health commentary since Trump landed.

On Monday, his greeting with Macron drew observation that he appeared unable to deliver his signature pulling handshake, lacking the usual strength in his right arm.

On Tuesday, footage of him gripping Narendra Modi’s arm to climb one step at the group photo accumulated millions of views. A new crescent-shaped mark appeared on his left hand during a working session, adding to the existing commentary about the right hand’s discoloration.
