Senator Trump Attacked With Obscene Nickname Responds

A swing and a miss

Donald Trump has a long history of nicknaming political opponents. On Wednesday, he unveiled “Os(jerk!)off” for Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff from the G7 summit in France. Ossoff’s review was not positive, and neither was his assessment of the man who came up with it.

The nickname arrived via Truth Social, where Trump celebrated Mike Collins winning the Georgia Republican primary runoff. “He will win his Senate Race in Georgia against a pathetic failed Dumocrat Senator, Os(jerk!)off, who is a joke in D.C. Nobody even knows who he is!!!” he wrote, adding that he would be staging “Big TRUMP Rallies” in the state for Collins.

Ossoff, apparently unbothered, gave three separate outlets three versions of the same answer on Thursday.

Semafor’s Burgess Everett got the sharpest one. “The president is humiliated globally by this failed war. He’s an increasingly unstable lame duck and a national disgrace.”

MS NOW’s Jen Psaki got the nickname critique specifically. “I didn’t think it was his best work as nicknames go. But more to the point, he is increasingly unstable. And I think that it flows from the fact that he is globally humiliated from this failed war.”

TMZ got the economic version. “He is a disgraced president, humiliated on the world stage by his failed war. Raking in billions for himself and his family while he makes you pay more for gas, for groceries and for health care.” When asked if he planned to fire back with a nickname of his own, Ossoff said simply: “I’m good.”

The “failed war” running through every answer is Trump’s four-month conflict with Iran, which ended Wednesday with a deal drawing criticism from both parties. Iran receives $300 billion in reconstruction funds, sanctions are lifted and the Strait of Hormuz reopens under Iranian and Omani joint control.

Former President Obama said he was “doubtful” the agreement was “significantly different” from the 2015 JCPOA that Trump spent years calling the worst deal in American history.

The Collins endorsement, meanwhile, has not landed smoothly inside the GOP either.

Internal polling has consistently shown Collins underperforming against Ossoff compared to what primary rival Derek Dooley would have done, and Cook Political Report rates the race as “Lean Democratic.” Collins is also under House Ethics Committee review over allegations his former chief of staff hired his own girlfriend as a campaign intern and paid her over $10,000 for little or no work.
