Donald Trump, who will return as president on January 20, 2025, announced on Monday that he is backing Mike Johnson for Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Trump made this announcement on his social media platform, Truth Social, where he praised Johnson and shared his thoughts on the future of the Republican Party.
In his post, Trump called Mike Johnson “a good, hard-working, religious man” and said he believed Johnson would lead well as Speaker. He urged Republicans to take full advantage of their recent election success, where they won control of Congress and the presidency. Trump claimed, without evidence, that his victory in the 2024 election was a landslide, saying he won all seven swing states, 312 electoral votes, and even the popular vote.

Trump’s statement also included criticism of Democrats, whom he accused of wasting $2.5 billion on their 2024 campaign. He alleged that some of this money was used to buy endorsements from celebrities like Beyoncé and Oprah Winfrey, although he provided no proof to support these claims.
Trump’s endorsement of Mike Johnson shows how much influence the former president still has in the Republican Party. Johnson, a strong conservative, shares many of Trump’s political views, such as opposing Democratic policies on climate change and economic reforms. With Johnson as Speaker, the Republicans now have a clear leader to push forward their plans in Congress.
However, being Speaker won’t be easy for Johnson. The Republican Party is divided between moderates and far-right members. Johnson will need to work hard to keep everyone united while trying to pass new laws. Some of the main issues he’ll face include taxes, healthcare, and immigration.

As Trump and the Republicans prepare to lead, people need to stay informed and think critically about politics. Are the claims about election fraud and campaign spending true, or are they unverified? It’s important to rely on trusted sources for accurate information.
Additionally, Mike Johnson’s actions as Speaker will reveal the Republican Party’s actual goals—will they work with Democrats or focus solely on their own party’s interests? Rather than focusing on important issues like healthcare and climate change, Trump spends a lot of time attacking his opponents and making unproven claims.
