Trump Is Back At It With A Wild 2:38 AM Social Media Rant

Another restless night

Donald Trump spent Tuesday afternoon speaking at a Mack Trucks plant in Pennsylvania. By the time most Americans were asleep, he was back on Truth Social, posting about communists just before midnight and then again at 2:38 a.m. while the Iran deal remained unsigned.

“America the Beautiful will NEVER be a Communist Country!!! President DJT,” Trump wrote at 2:38 a.m. ET on Wednesday.

The post appeared to reference primary results in New York, where several Democratic socialist and progressive candidates backed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani had won races earlier that evening. It was also Trump’s second warning of the night.

A few hours earlier, he had already posted: “Many Communists running in badly failing Blue States. The votes seem to have them doing quite well against each other. The bad news is that history has conclusively shown that the downtrodden States that they will soon be running will ONLY GET WORSE. MAGA!”

The late-night activity fits neatly with what has become one of the more recognizable features of Trump’s second term. Earlier this year, The Daily Beast found there were only five days in April when Trump could have gotten a full night’s sleep based on his Truth Social activity. In May, he posted 861 times, his highest monthly total yet.

Sleep experts are not exactly thrilled by those numbers.

Dr. Ritz Birah, a psychologist and sleep expert, has noted that adults in their late seventies typically need 7 to 9 hours of sleep for healthy cognitive functioning and that chronic sleep restriction can make people “more reactive” and “more prone to errors in judgment.”

Meanwhile, the unusual schedule has also found its way into a forthcoming White House book.

In Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan describe a president who keeps increasingly unconventional hours.

“Some mornings Trump would be up early making phone calls and posting on social media while watching TV,” Haberman and Swan write. “But occasionally, aides couldn’t reach him during the hours between eight and ten, which they soon came to realize meant he had stayed up all night, on the phone or watching television or both, only to finally catch some sleep around four or five in the morning.”

According to the authors, Trump has “never been a big sleeper,” but is now “sleeping even less, keeping stranger hours than he had in his first term.”

That has made for an interesting contrast with Trump’s public image, particularly because his habit of closing his eyes during meetings and public events has been a frequent topic of conversation as questions about his schedule and stamina continue to follow him.

White House aides have long brushed it off as a “listening mechanism,” while spokesman Davis Ingle insisted Trump has “unmatched energy” that stands “in stark contrast to what we saw during the last administration, when Democrats and the legacy media intentionally covered up Joe Biden’s serious mental and physical decline from the American people.”
