Trump Keeps Boasting About His Ban On Travel From China, But New Report Claims It Was The Airlines That First Suspended Flights, Not POTUS

Once again, he did absolutely nothing useful.

Donald Trump has spent the majority of his public speaking engagements — which happen often, now that his Coronavirus Task Force is holding daily press briefings in lieu of the sweaty, racist MAGA rallies that he can’t hold any more — bragging about his decision to suspend air travel from China as a result of the coronavirus outbreak that originated in a wet market in Wuhan.

Frankly, he brags about it so much because it’s essentially the only thing he can brag about. The entirety of the president’s response to the outbreak in its early days was so resoundingly unimpressive and lacking in pretty much every conceivable way, that it seems Donald has no choice but to hold tight to the one, single thing that he did do correctly.

However, according to reports, it seems as though he didn’t actually do the one thing he has to brag about either.

Not until it was too late, anyway.

Trump has spent a lot of time over the course of the past several weeks making everything into such a colossal mess that it’s sometimes hard to remember all the reporting that’s taken place throughout this whole ordeal.

But since he is doubling down once again on his claim to fame regarding his suspension of air travel from China, Mother Jones thought it’d be a perfect time to remind us all that Trump’s decision wasn’t all that special at all when he made it.

Back on the 31st of January, when Trump first announced the “travel ban” from China, the New York Times reported on the president’s decision. However, they were sure to note that Donald made the choice only after the three biggest airline companies in the nation had already done so themselves.

The Times report read:

“Moving to counter the spreading coronavirus outbreak, the Trump administration said Friday that it would bar entry by most foreign nationals who had recently visited China and put some American travelers under a quarantine as it declared a rare public health emergency. The temporary restrictions followed announcements by American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines that they would suspend air service between the United States and China for several months.”

Once again, folks, Donald Trump didn’t do anything special.

He merely waited until his bigwig buddies at the airline companies were good and comfortable with the ding it might make in their pocketbooks and then he followed suit and took all the credit.

Are you surprised? Because I’m not.
