Donald Trump has long criticized gas prices when others are in office, and while running for president, he often promised to lower them, while also avoiding new foreign wars. In 2024, he is widely seen as having won the election largely because of consumer frustration with ongoing inflation.

But upon returning to office, Trump has launched a war in Iran, which led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and gas prices that have crept back up over the $4-per-gallon average. And Trump doesn’t seem to have a plan for getting out of the Iran conflict.

Trump, speaking last Friday, declared that the higher gas prices are a small price to pay for Iran not to have a nuclear weapon.

“For you to pay a TINY little bit more for your gasoline, just remember, you’re doing it so that a very evil country… cannot have a nuclear weapon,” the president said. “So remember that, when you have to pay a little bit more, you’re at $4. It’s OK, I mean, it’s… I’m not… I’m not… I’ll never apologize; I did the right thing,” Trump said, per Indy 100.
