A new statement from Donald Trump’s legal team has pretty much epitomized the old saying, “saw that coming from a mile away,” as the attorneys representing the scandal-ridden former president released a truly unhinged, absolutely livid response to the bombshell news that broke from the New York Times this week, all but confirming that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is going to slap Donald Trump with an official indictment in the Stormy Daniels hush money investigation any day now.

The Times report confirmed that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has officially sent a signal to scandal-ridden former President Donald Trump’s legal team, indicating that an official indictment against the ex-president is on the horizon and his attorneys should get prepared. The indictment would be in relation to the Manhattan DA’s office’s ongoing investigation into the infamous hush money payments made to adult film star and alleged former Trump affair partner Stormy Daniels, as well as another woman, during the final stages of Donald’s 2016 presidential campaign, in an effort to buy the womens’ silence regarding their alleged sexual history with the then-Republican candidate, so as not to harm his election chances.

Times journalists William K. Rashbaum, Ben Protess, and Jonah E. Bromwich report, “The prosecutors offered Mr. Trump the chance to testify next week before the grand jury that has been hearing evidence in the potential case, the people said. Such offers almost always indicate an indictment is close; it would be unusual for the district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, to notify a potential defendant without ultimately seeking charges against him. In New York, potential defendants have the right to answer questions in the grand jury before they are indicted, but they rarely testify, and Mr. Trump is likely to decline the offer. His lawyers could also meet privately with the prosecutors in hopes of fending off criminal charges.”

The scandal-ridden former president didn’t handle the news well at all, and neither did his legal team.

ABC investigative reporter John Santucci posted a copy of the Trump legal team’s furious response to the bombshell development:

“The Manhattan District Attorney’s threat to indict President Trump is simply insane,” a spokesperson on behalf of the attorneys raged. “For the past five years, the DA’s office has been on a Witch Hunt, investigating every aspect of President Trump’s life, and they’ve come up empty at every turn — and now this.”

“The fact that after their intensive investigation the DA is even considering a new political attack is a clear exoneration of President Trump in all areas. President Trump was a victim of extortion then, just as he is now. It’s an embarrassment to the Democrat [sic] prosecutors, and it’s an embarrassment to New York City.”

Trump himself responded to the development by once again laying heavy on his ages-old, tired-out, “I did nothing wrong,” trope, before claiming, “I never had an affair with Stormy Daniels, nor would I have wanted to have an affair with Stormy Daniels,” and dubbing the entire investigation as a “political Witch-Hunt, trying to take down the leading candidate, by far, in the Republican Party.”

The hush money investigation comes amid a mountain of additional lawsuits, investigations, and overall legal peril for the ex-president, including the Fulton County DA’s election investigation as well as the DOJ’s ongoing investigations into January 6th, Trump’s attempts to overthrow the 2020 election, and the infamous stolen document scandal, among others.

As it stands, Bragg has not yet formally committed to any indictments against Donald Trump.
