White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany straight up lied to Fox News by insisting that President Donald Trump is not cutting back on holding press briefings even though he hasn’t held one for two days.
Following much ridicule after his disastrous press briefing on Friday when he suggested injecting disinfectants as a treatment for coronavirus, Trump has refused to hold a briefing for two days in a row.
McEnany confirmed that there wouldn’t be a briefing on Monday either, which would have made it three days without a briefing.
Most Americans likely welcomed the respite. After all, the briefings are basically useless campaign rallies where Trump strokes his own ego and airs grievances, rather than actually keeping the public informed about the pandemic.

But rather than admit Trump is cutting back, McEnany told Fox News the opposite.
“He seems to be pulling back,” host Ed Henry noted. “Are you finally acknowledging that maybe the briefings were a mistake?”
“No, the briefings were a great opportunity for the president to speak directly to the American people,” McEnany said. “That’s why millions and millions tune in to the president’s briefings to watch what he has to say. They recognize leadership.”
Why does everything have to be about ratings? Because that’s what McEnany’s answer boiled down to, even though many Americans tune in to watch the train wreck unfold. Also, most tune in hoping for information from the health experts, not Trump.
McEnany then admitted there isn’t going to be a briefing, but claimed there will be a meeting with CEOs and that there could be limited briefings later this week.
Asked if Trump is cutting back on the briefings, McEnany denied any such effort.
“Absolutely not an effort to cut back, but an effort to showcase the American people, the great entrepreneurship of this president,” she said.

The economy is not the most important thing Americans are worried about right now. This pandemic has killed 54,000 people and Trump is behaving like an incompetent lunatic who can’t handle any sort of criticism. We cannot focus on the economy until we get a handle on this virus. That means we need more testing and a vaccine. Reopening early could trigger a second wave of the virus and then we would have to shut the economy down again.
Nevertheless, Trump is cutting back on press briefings because he just realized they are backfiring on him. His ignorance and recklessness are on full display, and the press is now challenging him more strongly than before. He’s a coward and McEnany is being a good little propagandist by covering for him — even though she is obviously lying to do it.
Not long after this disastrous interview, McEnany went on to announce that there would be a press briefing on Monday after all. Trump and his team clearly felt the pressure after chickening out over the weekend.
