If you’re anything like me, you often find yourself wondering… How did we get here?
I don’t mean some sort of personal inner reflection or midlife crisis. I mean this country, as a whole. How did we get where we are now? What was it that led to all this hatred? This blatant lack of compassion and the most basic level of kindness for our fellow human beings? What got us to this point of such a deep divide that we genuinely just don’t care about each other?
And it’s things like this that make me wonder.

Georgia Judge Cary Hays lucked out when the Crawford County D.A.’s office opted not to move forward with criminal charges against him. But Hays’ luck may end there, as the state’s judicial watchdog has since picked up the case and officially filed formal charges against him for the assault.
The assault allegedly took place following the defendant Brian Keith Davis going before Hays for his first bond hearing on felony drug charges as well as two other lesser charges. The defendant asked to be released from jail on his own recognizance. However, Judge Hays instead set Davis’ bail at $8,500. This ruling reportedly sent Davis into a tailspin, prompting him to hurl an onslaught of insults, according to witnesses who were present at the hearing.
“What did you say, boy? Come back here and say it again,” Judge Hays reportedly fumed at Davis following the verbal altercation after his ruling. Hays himself recounted putting his hand on Davis’ shoulder to turn the defendant around towards him, prompting Davis to reply, “If you touch me one more time, I’m going to beat your [expletive].”
Video footage of the assault shared by WSB Radio shows Judge Hays grabbing Davis by his shirt and pushing him up against the wall.
Thus far, reporting does not indicate whether or not Hays will contest the charges against him stemming from the assault.
