It’s been quite a day for Donald Trump’s Ukraine scandal, as things are starting to shift, and not in the “president’s” favor. In what the New York Times called “a substantial update,” Trump’s ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland recounted how he told Ukrainian officials military aid was tied to their commitment to investigations “president” Trump wanted. Sondland, by the way, donated $1 million to Trump’s swampy inaugural committee, so it’s a pretty big deal.
House Democrats also released excerpts of the transcripts of their closed-door depositions with former U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine Kurt Volker.
Republicans wanted transparency, and they got it. So now a senior adviser to Vice President Mike Pence is likely to testify in front of Congressional investigators, according to what anonymous sources told CNN.
Jennifer Williams would be the first person on Pence’s national security team to appear and has knowledge of how much the vice president knew about the efforts by President Donald Trump and those around him to push Ukraine to launch investigations into Joe Biden and his son, as well as 2016 election interference, according to a source familiar with her thinking.”

It sounds like Williams, who is a longtime Department staffer and not a Trump appointee, knows where the bodies are buried. Williams was reportedly on the controversial quid pro quo call between Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in July.
Other senior administration and national security officials were also listening to the July 25 phone call in which Trump asked for a “favor” of Ukraine’s president.
A White House source told CNN that Trump asked Zelensky to work with attorney general William Barr, and his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani on investigations but that was only after Zelensky said he was ready to proceed with the transfer of US military aid to Ukraine.
Talking Points Memo reports that Williams also accompanied the Pence on his trip to Warsaw, Poland on September 1st, where he met with Zelensky directly and discussed Trump’s withholding of military aid to Ukraine.
Williams must know a lot, and enough to not commit perjury. Sondland is learning that lesson now.
