This is really becoming an issue.

As the coronavirus continues to hammer down on the United States, MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski took a moment this morning to issue a reminder regarding what Donald Trump’s lack of competency and intelligence could mean for us all in the midst of fighting this global pandemic.

It’s long been known that Donald Trump isn’t one for reading, preferring pictures, charts, and graphics instead, and it’s certainly no secret that he stomped all over the long-standing precedent of regular presidential intelligence briefings within days of taking office.

Frankly, it’s always been an issue, leaving Americans to gather what little information they could from an overtly uninformed Trump Twitter feed. However, what was once a huge annoyance has now turned into a huge problem amid the outbreak of a life-threatening virus.

This morning, Mika began her segment by bringing up a Washington Post article from back in 2018 that outlined the president’s bad habits in regard to receiving intelligence briefings before bringing on NBC News correspondent Carol Lee to talk about how Trump’s unwillingness to sit for a legitimate intelligence briefing has gravely affected his ability to properly respond to this pandemic.

Mika questioned Lee regarding Trump’s attempts to combat this outbreak as a person who’s unable to read and/or comprehend the “written word.”

Lee revealed that Trump’s tactics regarding his intelligence briefings haven’t shown much change despite the nationwide catastrophe — claiming that she’s spoken to sources who state that Trump is still obviously distracted and demands simplistic materials such as bullet points and visual aids on nothing longer than a single page.

Lee then goes on to point out that, unlike his predecessors, Trump does not take part in the traditional daily presidential intelligence briefings, but rather “at max 2 or 3 times a week” — it’s certainly not difficult to glean how big an issue that presents given these unprecedented and frankly terrifying times.

The NBC News correspondent goes on to point out that, in addition to his unwillingness to conduct a professional or even regularly-scheduled intelligence briefing, Trump has a very bad habit of refusing to accept the facts that he’s presented with, instead choosing to fight back against a lot of the intel he’s receiving because it simply doesn’t fit his narrative — often attempting to replace the legitimate intel with “his own set of facts.”

Not to mention, intelligence officials are apparently often left to wonder if Trump is even absorbing the information they’re trying to give him as he gets easily distracted and often ends up going off on a tangent.

To make a long story short, Trump’s immaturity and lack of common sense was a huge issue when we were wading through basic, day to day life. However, now that millions of lives are quite literally at risk, Trump’s childish tactics have gone from unprofessional and deeply aggravating to downright dangerous.
