Raise your hand if you know that someone 25 is no longer a “kid.” Why am I bringing this up? Simple: Vice President JD Vance is defending a former Elon Musk staffer who resigned from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) earlier this week after being connected to a social media account responsible for promoting racist, offensive tweets.
Considering that Vance’s wife Usha is of Indian descent, I have to wonder why the hell he’s defending Mark Elez, a “key DOGE staff member who gained access to the Treasury Department’s central payments system,” per The Wall Street Journal.” Elez resigned “after he was linked to a deleted social media account that advocated racism and eugenics.”
I really have to wonder how Vance can defend this guy. But I’ll admit I read “Hillbilly Elegy” a few years back and assumed he was intelligent. Well, I guess books can be deceiving.
As Mediaite reports, this is what Vance had to say:
“Here’s my view: I obviously disagree with some of Elez’s posts, but I don’t think stupid social media activity should ruin a kid’s life,” Vance posted on X. “We shouldn’t reward journalists who try to destroy people. Ever.”

“So I say bring him back,” Vance added. “If he’s a bad dude or a terrible member of the team, fire him for that.”

Vance is, of course, completely wrong. What if those journalists are reporting on someone, like, I dunno, Donald Trump, for instance, who’s busy ruining the lives of innocent people? Don’t everyday Americans have the right to find out what the Tangerine Scream is doing and how it affects their lives?
Elez resigned after the WSJ queried the White House about his connection to the account. And of course, it’s now Elon Musk to the rescue. He’s defending Elez on X by suggesting that the WSJ should fire the journalist who uncovered Elez’s social media activity.
Then the South African billionaire posted a poll asking, “Bring back @DOGE staffer who made inappropriate statements through a now-deleted pseudonym?” Almost 80% of those who responded voted “yes.”
According to the WSJ, Elez voiced support for Gaza and Israel being “wiped off the face of the Earth” and the repeal of the Civil Rights Act.
What’s even more disgusting is that the account also endorsed a “eugenic immigration policy” and bragged that its owner “was racist before it was cool.” Oh, and the account also posted that its owner proclaimed “You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity.”
All I can really say here is to each their own. I guess. Your views are fine, I suppose, as long as you keep them to yourself if they are bound to harm innocent people. But if you broadcast them on social media, you’re putting your sentiments on blast. Free speech is free speech, but if it’s targeted at my family, friends, and neighbors, you and I are going to have something to talk about.
It’s good that Elez, 25, resigned. Maybe there’s one small part of him that realizes what he posted managed to be racist, cruel, and stupid simultaneously. But I still have to ask:
What the hell is wrong with JD Vance?
Social media users gave him a good brow-beating:
Nor should we reward little snot nose wanna be racists. File on twins used for eugenics research at the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Anthropology at Berlin, Germany pic.twitter.com/rltO6grtpQ

Just be honest and say you don't have a problem with his posts, you support them. You aren't fooling anyone

You think that somebody who said all these things below should be anywhere near the treasury department and US government? Shame on you.

– “Normalize Indian hate,” and

The Vance Doctrine:
“We shouldn’t reward journalists who try to destroy people. Ever.”
This is the path to a cancel culture-free future. You don’t get to ruin my people by trying to ruin them. You just don’t

Then bring him back! You're the big tough guy with all the power now, right? (or at least you work with those two guys)
You don't get to play the victim anymore and hide behind the mean journalists and the cancel culture libs. You're in charge now.
If you want to hire back…
