President Donald Trump is so desperate to take credit for the $2 trillion stimulus package that he wants his signature on every check sent to American households.
Senate Republicans needed Democrats to pass the bill earlier this week and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the Democratic majority were required to move the bill through the House, but Trump is trying to claim total credit for the massive stimulus.
Apparently, holding the signing ceremony with only Republicans in attendance was not enough and he is reportedly demanding that his own signature be on every single check sent out to struggling Americans.
According to the Wall Street Journal:
Mr. Trump has told people he wants his signature to appear on the direct payment checks that will go out to many Americans in the coming weeks, according to an administration official. Normally, a civil servant — the disbursing officer for the payment center — would sign federal checks, said Don Hammond, a former senior Treasury Department official.”

Trump’s vain demand smacks of desperation. He apparently thinks he can make every American think that he’s saving the day even though this money is not his to give out. The U.S. Treasury is not his personal piggy bank, it belongs to taxpayers. His signature belongs nowhere on those checks because it’s our money.
But Trump is desperate for credit because he is terrified of being ousted from office in November and so he is hoping voters will see his name on these checks and foolishly believe that he’s the one who gave them money. Again, Senate Democrats were required to pass the legislation, which Republicans delayed for many days because they attempted to create a corporate slush fund without any oversight.
And then once the bill went to the House, a Kentucky Republican tried to force a procedural vote that delayed passage a little more. In the end, the Democratic majority pushed it through.
Trump, however, thinks everything is about him. And by insisting on his personal signature on every check, he wants Americans to forget that his incompetence is why this pandemic is so bad in the first place and he wants everyone to believe that Democrats had nothing to do with the stimulus. Don’t let him pull the wool over your eyes.
