After a big-ass backlash, former Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from any investigation into charges that Russia meddled in the 2016 election. Even some Republicans said that he should recuse himself following revelations of Sessions’ meetings with the Russian ambassador to the U.S. during the campaign.
Trump, though, wanted a staunch loyalist as an Attorney General even if it put that individual’s reputation on the line. Sessions was the first sitting U.S. senator to endorse Trump’s presidential bid, but the former frozen steak salesman has been lashing out at his former AG ever since he recused himself.
Politico reported that Sessions finished well short of a majority in his Alabama Senate primary and now faces a runoff against former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville. Trump, of course, just had to respond while calling bashing his former attorney general over his lack of “loyalty” to the president. Trump falsely asserted lied and said that Sessions recused himself on his first day in office.
Trump got called out.
This is a lie. Sessions was AG for nearly a month before his recusal. https://t.co/Y9eah0jV0z

“Loyally appointed” is the kind of servant Trump wants, one loyal to him *against* the Constitution and the American people. He’s still furious that Sessions recused when he had a conflict of interest, but he’s talking to his current appointees. Bow down to the one you serve. pic.twitter.com/Mq78Srv7mz

Also, this is a nice admission you fired Sessions only because he wouldn’t obstruct the Mueller investigation. I hope you’re prepared to go to prison after you’re voted out of office.

Here’s an excerpt from the Mueller report. (Vol. II, p. 97) Mueller investigated Trump’s actions toward Sessions and reached the conclusion that he was trying to get Sessions to “end” the probe into his campaign. They were right: Trump admitted it today in his tweet about #ALSEN. pic.twitter.com/3WWEaF6g6A

Trump tweeting that “loyalty gets appointed” is a jaw-dropping admission. Protesters took to the streets when Trump fired Sessions, knowing that the shitstain of a president is trying to obstruct justice. Republicans who were all-in for Sessions as Attorney General have been silent over Trump’s attacks because they are afraid of their president. It’s way past time for Republicans to grow some balls or ovaries.
