Trump Phone Launched With Huge Flaw

The stripes kept changing somehow

The Trump family has been promising a gold patriotic smartphone since June 2025. After missing its August launch, then October, and then several more release dates, the T1 phone finally began shipping this week.

The rollout has not exactly gone smoothly.

Customers received a phone featuring an American flag with 11 stripes instead of 13, promotional videos filled with AI-generated imagery and a design that looks strikingly similar to a Chinese-made phone currently sold at Walmart for $127.99.

Trump Mobile’s marketing materials have now displayed three different stripe counts across three separate pieces of promotional content. Early material shown during a February 2026 interview featured the correct 13 stripes.

The current product page now shows 11.

A promotional video posted to Trump Mobile’s X account on May 13 somehow lowered the total again, showing a background flag with just nine stripes. A Community Note attached to the post stated plainly: “Video is AI, US flag has 11 then 9 stripes + back texture is inconsistent.”

The Verge later reported that the shifting stripe counts were almost certainly caused by AI-generated imagery, which regularly struggles with detailed patterns like flags and human hands.

The “Made in America” branding also started quietly changing once people looked closer. The phone was originally marketed using the phrase “MADE IN AMERICA.” However, that wording later disappeared. In its place came softer phrases like “designed with American values in mind” and “shaped by American innovation,” alongside language about American teams helping guide design and quality.

The actual hardware appears to tell a different story.

Multiple tech outlets, including The Verge, Gadget Hacks and Apple Insider, reported that the T1’s specifications closely match the Wingtech Revvl 7 Pro 5G, a Chinese manufactured Android phone already available online for under $130. CNN separately pointed out the resemblance to a Walmart device priced at $127.99.

The deeper customers looked, the stranger the details became.

In April 2026, Trump Mobile quietly updated its terms and conditions to clarify that a $100 pre order deposit “does not guarantee that a Device will be produced or made available for purchase.” The company instead described the payment as a “conditional opportunity.” That wording arrived after roughly 590,000 customers had collectively paid around $59 million in deposits.

The Verge later reported that after placing two test pre orders, it received no shipping confirmation and found no clear indication inside the system that the orders had even been logged.

Trump Mobile’s social media strategy also appears to have shifted recently.

Last week, the company’s X account focused less on selling the actual phone and more on encouraging customers to switch to Trump Mobile service plans while keeping their existing devices.

“Switch now, keep your phone and experience the upgrade,” the company posted.
