Donald Trump has never been shy about attacking judges, and he’s done that again this week.

U.S. District Judge James Boasberg is the federal jurist who blocked the Trump Administration earlier this month from deporting Venezuelan immigrants without due process. This weekend, Judge Boasberg bashed a subsequent Trump Administration filing as “woefully insufficient.”

“Judge James Boasberg is doing everything in his power to usurp the Power of the Presidency. He is a local, unknown Judge, a Grandstander, looking for publicity, and it cannot be for any other reason because his “Rulings” are so ridiculous and inept,” Trump said on Truth Social Thursday night.

“Unlawful Nationwide Injunctions by Radical Left Judges could very well lead to the destruction of our Country!,” Trump wrote in a separate post. “These people are Lunatics, who do not care, even a little bit, about the repercussions from their very dangerous and incorrect Decisions and Rulings. Lawyers endlessly search the United States for these Judges, and file lawsuits as quickly as they find them.”

The truth is that the Trump Administration is using a novel legal theory based on a 19th-century law that has never been used in this way, and a judge has ruled against him.

Also, this week, there was an attempt to tie the judge to corruption baselessly.

Paul Sperry, a conservative investigative journalist, posted to X that “on a $247,000 federal salary, property records show Judge Boasberg lives in a $2.4 million house in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in D.C.” The implication was that the judge somehow engaged in some corruption or other nefarious acts. Elon Musk even replied to the thread with, “Interesting.”

Of course, that fact pattern is only suspicious if you don’t know anything about housing markets or buying a house. Boasberg bought the house many years ago, and it has appreciated over time in Washington’s housing market. He was previously a high-earning lawyer, and his wife also had a successful career.
