Melania Breaks Her Silence Over Jimmy Kimmel’s Jokes About Her

Just a late night gag

On Thursday, Jimmy Kimmel taped a parody White House Correspondents’ Dinner monologue for his ABC show because the actual event had replaced its traditional comedian host with a mentalist.

Among the jokes, he turned to Melania Trump. “Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow,” he said.

48 hours later, a gunman opened fire outside the actual dinner and Melania was rushed out by Secret Service.

Kimmel also joked about Melania’s April 26 birthday, saying she was “planning to celebrate at home the same way she always does, looking out a window and whispering, ‘What have I done?'”

The segment was funny enough in the abstract. In the context of what happened Saturday night, it became the centerpiece of a very different conversation.

Melania responded on Monday with a statement on X.

“Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country. His monologue about my family isn’t comedy – his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America,” she wrote.

“People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate. A coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him. Enough is enough. It is time for ABC to take a stand. How many times will ABC’s leadership enable Kimmel’s atrocious behavior at the expense of our community.”

The call to action landed on familiar ground.

ABC previously pulled Kimmel off the air in September 2025 after he made controversial remarks about Charlie Kirk’s killing. When he returned on September 23, Kimmel said it was never his intention “to make light of the murder of a young man,” adding that he accepted some people felt his remarks had been “ill-timed or unclear or maybe both.”

Three months after his return, Kimmel and ABC agreed to a contract extension through May 2027.

The MAGA response was predictable in volume if not entirely in intensity. Right-wing commentator Benny Johnson called on ABC to issue a full on-air apology or have its broadcasting license revoked.

Townhall editor Larry O’Connor called Kimmel a “broken man” and posted directly at Disney: “@disney, you have a problem.”

Senator Mike Lee posted the clip on X with the caption “Not cool.”

The posts arrived in waves throughout Sunday and Monday.
