We reported earlier that Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), a ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, is retiring from Congress at the end of this month. PunchBowl News’s Jake Sherman took to Twitter to say that it is “rumored” that Nunes is leaving Congress to work for former President Donald Trump’s new digital media company. And his timing is funny since news broke on Monday that the deal between a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) and Trump’s new social media company is being investigated by the US Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulators.

At any rate, Nunes’s move to Trump’s digital media company was just confirmed in a tweet released by the twice-impeached one-term president’s spokesperson Liz Harrington to circumvent his ban on the behemoth social site. Nunes is departing from his gig in Congress to be the CEO of Trump’s social media company. In his statement, perpetual victim Donald Trump says, “Devin understands that we must stop the liberal media and Big Tech from destroying the freedoms that make America great.” In other words, Trump’s feelings are still hurt that he was deplatformed on social media for inciting the deadly Jan. 6 insurrection.

Twitter users piled in.

As for Nunes leaving Congress, well, sometimes the trash just takes itself out.
