Everyone knows that President Donald Trump likes to watch himself on TV, although he hasn’t often been publicly captured doing so. He was, however, caught doing just that on Saturday night, prior to his July 4 speech.

According to The Daily Mail, “the broadcast was showing a live feed of Trump and his wife Melania watching the television that was ironically streaming the back of their heads.  Moments later, Trump was even seen checking his hair and tie in the camera of his cell phone on Saturday night.”

According to the New York Times, Trump finally reached the stage at about 11 p.m., shortly after the video was taken.

“An hour before midnight on the Fourth of July, President Trump appeared on the National Mall to give a speech that blended American history, tales of old war heroes, happy patriotic talk and a handful of political chum,” the Times said. “As he did one night earlier at Mount Rushmore, Mr. Trump used the nation’s birthday to scaremonger about Democrats four months before the midterms (he talked a lot again about “communism”) and demand that Congress pass an act that would make it harder to vote.”

“We rebuilt our military in my first term,” Trump said in the speech. “We used it a little bit in our — actually, I should say third term, but I won’t do that, because I don’t want any controversy.”

Social media users were very amused by that surreal moment, described it as “Trumpception.”
