Most people spend the Fourth of July with fireworks, barbecue, and perhaps a cold drink. Donald Trump, true to form, welcomed Independence Day by climbing onto Truth Social in the early hours of the morning to compare two rising Democratic politicians to cartoon characters from the 1980s.
The president’s post appeared at 2:11 a.m., declaring that Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff looks like Pee-wee Herman.
The Talarico and Ossoff comparisons were not new, however. Trump had already aired them in an earlier Truth Social post, writing: “Isn’t it strange, the Dumocrats are running a man in Texas who looks virtually identical to Alfred E. Neuman, of MAD Magazine fame and, in Georgia, they’re running someone who looks like a twin to the Late, Great, Pee-wee Herman. With these two horrible Political Candidates, I don’t know if there’s a genetic tree, but it certainly is close! What do you think?” He closed that post with a campaign pitch: “In any event, Mike Collins, of Georgia, should easily beat Pee-wee, and Ken Paxton, of Texas, should easily beat Alfred E. Vote Republican and, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!””
The polls, unfortunately for the president, are telling a rather different story.

Ossoff currently holds a commanding lead in the Georgia Senate race, with the latest Fox News data giving him a 13-point advantage over Republican challenger Mike Collins. He has also outraised his opponent by a significant margin, pulling in over $60 million in contributions as of late April compared to Collins’ $4.9 million by late May. Ossoff, for his part, has not been sitting quietly while the nicknames arrive.
“The president is humiliated globally by this failed war,” Ossoff said. “He’s an increasingly unstable lame duck and a national disgrace.”
At a recent campaign rally in Savannah, he sharpened that further, telling the crowd: “Because of his war and his tariffs, inflation rose to over 4%. He promised to bring down prices on day one. Do you remember that? Today is day 524 and groceries, rent, and health care are at their all-time highs in American history.”
Texas, meanwhile, is shaping up to be a considerably tighter contest.
The latest New York Times/Siena College survey had Talarico and Ken Paxton tied at 47%, though other June polls from the University of Texas and Quantus Insights gave Paxton a slight edge.
Worth noting is that the photo of Talarico used in Trump’s post was doctored to make him appear missing a tooth, a detail that did not go unnoticed by anyone paying attention. Talarico has been absorbing Trump’s commentary for months now and appears thoroughly unbothered by it.
“You got these old guys lathered up in their fake tan, throwing corny nicknames at each other,” Talarico told MS NOW in June. “And those corny nicknames, they don’t lower the price of groceries, they don’t lower the price of gas.”
