On Truth Social this week, Donald Trump posted a bizarre and hateful rant, attributed to the right-wing talk radio host Michael Savage, which was directed at people from India.
The post did not state that it came from Michael Savage, but it began with “Welcome to the Savage Nation,” which is the name of Savage’s show.
Savage, long a vocal opponent of immigration, was a more prominent figure in the Bush era than he is today; he was fired from a brief weekly show on MSNBC in 2003 for making anti-gay comments. He now hosts a podcast rather than a traditional radio show, although the comments appear to have occurred during a Newsmax appearance regarding the Supreme Court arguments on birthright citizenship.
“A baby here becomes an instant citizen, and then they bring the entire family in from China or India or some other hellhole on the planet. You don’t have to go too far to see that. English is not spoken here anymore. That there’s almost no loyalty to this country amongst the immigrant class coming in today, which was not always the case,” the rant stated.

Savage went on to describe Indian and Chinese immigrants to the United States as “gangsters with laptops” who have “stepped on our flag.”
“Our nation is being overrun with Chinese coming here just to drop a baby on our shore then bring in the entire family,” he said. “How about some common sense in a bankrupt nation? ACLU Attorney Wang is pushing to destroy our national identity, turn us into a colony of China, but it’s not limited to China, it’s also India.”
The posting of the rant seems to have gotten more media coverage in India than it has in the U.S.
Per NDTV, a media outlet in that country, reported that Christopher Elms, spokesperson for the US Embassy in New Delhi, had stated that Trump had spoken warmly of India. While Trump and Prime Minister Modi have traditionally been allies, they have clashed of late, in relation to tariffs.
When the US embassy in New Delhi was asked to comment on this , what did they have to offer?” You can quote the below on the record attributed to the U.S. Embassy Spokesperson: The President has said “India is a great country with a very good friend of mine at the top.” https://t.co/dd1YUW9cXI
