US Ambassador To Mexico Savagely Responds To Ted Cruz After Senator Said There Is “A Breakdown In The Rule Of Law” In Mexico And He Absolutely Nails It

That didn't turn out so well for Cruz.

GOP Senator Ted Cruz just got his ass handed to him yet again, this time by the Mexican government, and frankly, we’d like to buy them a drink.

According to a new report from The Dallas Morning News, Cruz recently thought it a good idea to try to hit out at Mexico, accusing them of “undermining the rule of law.” However, the country’s government has already shot back in response, and to say they put Cruz in his place would be an understatement, as Mexico’s leadership reminded the Republican that at least in Mexico their candidates concede defeat whenever they lose an election.

The pissing match between Cruz and the Mexican government came to a head earlier this week when the Texas GOP senator claimed there was “deepening civil unrest in Mexico and the breakdown there of civil society, the breakdown of the rule of law,” in reference to recent killings of journalists and politicians in the North American country.

In response to Cruz’s jab, Mexico’s ambassador to the United States penned a rather pointed open letter to Ted Cruz noting that the Mexican government condemns violence just as much as their US neighbor and it taking great steps to address the recent issues but notes that the reality of the situation in Mexico is “very different” than the picture Republican Senator Cruz is attempting to publicly paint.

“I invite you to look at what happened in our federal elections last June,” Ambassador Esteban Moctezuma Barragán wrote in the open letter. “All parties, with no exception, accepted the results and kept moving forward to strengthen our democracy and freedom of expression.”

This, of course, was a clear reference to Donald Trump’s ongoing refusal to accept his 2020 presidential election loss, which led to countless lawsuits, investigations, and the infamous January 6th Capitol siege.

Mexico’s President Andés Manuel López Obrador himself recently responded to Cruz’s little outburst and was quick to brush off the Republican’s criticism, saying “it is to be expected,” given the political differences between the two of them.

“If he praised me, I might start thinking we weren’t doing things right,” López Obrador said. “But if he says we are wrong, well that for me is something to be proud of.”

Cruz, of course, is no stranger himself to scandals and controversy surrounding Mexico, as the GOP senator is still in hot water over his get-away flee to Cancun in February of 2021, as his constituents were buried in an unheard-of, deadly winter storm in Texas.

The Dallas Morning News notes in their report, “López Obrador hasn’t always accepted election results.”

“When official vote counts showed he lost the presidency in 2006 — albeit by a vastly narrower margin than did Trump in 2020 — he rallied supporters to block a major Mexico City boulevard for weeks and staged an inauguration of himself as “legitimate president.’ He accepted a clearer loss in 2012, and won the presidency by a wide margin in 2018.”
