According to one federal prosecutor who formerly served on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team, there was a “tantalizing comment” included in the executive summary released by the January 6th House Select Committee that he believes points to two particular, “huge” Trump insider witnesses who may have actually turned on the former president behind closed doors, and would certainly have access to key, bombshell information about the ex-president.
The number of former Trump White House officials, aides, and allies to have already appeared and testified before the J6 House Select Committee is not a small one, by any stretch of the means. It was thanks in large part to their willingness to testify and tell the world the truth that the House Select Committee was able to reach their historic decision to formally refer the former United States President to the Department of Justice for criminal charges on four separate counts, as well as criminal referrals against many of Trump’s closest insiders and allies.
But things get worse for Trump still, as MSNBC legal analyst and former assistant U.S. attorney who worked on Mueller’s team, Andrew Weissmann, said that the US Department of Justice is still sitting on extensively powerful testimonies that just haven’t been released yet.
“There is a very tantalizing comment in the executive summary,” Weissmann said. “It’s hard to call it that because it’s 160 pages, but in that executive summary there’s a reference to why the Department of Justice may not have sought to charge Mark Meadows and Dan Scavino with contempt.”

“If you recall, they were both referred by the committee to the Department of Justice for contempt failing to comply with a subpoena, and one of the things the report says, is it sort of speculates, but odd that it says it may be that they’re already cooperating,” the former Mueller prosecutor went on to say, adding, “and with Mark Meadows, that would be huge. I mean, he is in the place to know everything so, obviously, if not cooperating already, there is a ton of pressure that is going to be put on him.”
In the coming days and weeks, the January 6th House Select Committee will begin to release extensive materials from their long-running investigation, including witness transcripts. This will only serve to further bulk up the Justice Department’s trove of evidence and make it even more likely that Trump’s closest and dearest allies will be slammed with criminal charges for their roles in helping the ex-president in his efforts to not only overthrow the 2020 presidential election, but also blatantly obstruct the J6 Committee’s investigation into such.
“I think department prosecutors will look at this release of documents, not so much for the Trump information, but for underlings who may be able to be charged and flipped,” Weissmann went on to explain. “So, you know, [Secret Service agent] Tony Ornato would be one of them, but they’re going to look very, very closely for any information that could help them charge people with either making a false statement or perjury or obstruction of justice to see if they can get them to be cooperating witnesses.”
