Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash. The weather was rough then, with strong winds up to 40 mph and snow on the runway. However, aviation expert John Cox said, “The weather conditions were windy. The wind was out of the west at 27 to 35 knots, about 38 miles an hour. So it was windy. But the airplanes are designed and certified to handle that. The pilots are trained and experienced to handle that.”
So, was it the weather? A mechanical issue? Pilot error? Investigators are looking into all possibilities.
Four major aviation accidents in North America have occurred in the last month, raising concerns about air travel safety. On January 29, a commercial jetliner crashed into an Army helicopter in Washington, D.C., killing 67 people. Just two days later, on January 31, a medical transport plane went down in Philadelphia, causing the deaths of all six people onboard and one person on the ground. On February 10, one person was killed, and at least three others were injured in Scottsdale, Arizona, after a business jet—owned by Vince Neil of the band Mötley Crüe—crashed into another plane as it landed. Most recently, on February 17, Flight 4819 crashed in Toronto, adding to growing fears about aviation safety. These four crashes in such a short time have made many people worried about flying safety. Authorities are now facing pressure to investigate and improve safety measures to prevent more tragedies in the future.
Air travel is getting busier daily as more people fly to different places. With so many flights, safety is paramount. Passengers need to feel safe when they travel. Airlines and airports must ensure everything is checked and ready before each flight. Sometimes, small mistakes can lead to big problems. That is why safety checks are so necessary.
Before takeoff, it might be a good idea for passengers to pay attention to the safety instructions. Knowing what to do in an emergency can help save lives. Safety should always be a top priority for everyone when flying.
