House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi is slated to release a bombshell new book, in which she recalls being approached by doctors and experts who were “deeply concerned” because Donald Trump was showing serious signs that he “was in decline.”
The Guardian managed to obtain an early copy of the former Democratic House Speaker’s new tell-all book. Tucked inside those pages is Pelosi’s description of a 2019 memorial service for prominent psychiatrist Dr. David Hamburg that was, of course, attended by numerous other mental health doctors and experts in the field.
According to Pelosi, she was approached by a succession of experts and physicians who were also attending the memorial service, all of whom expressed to her that they felt “deeply concerned that there was something seriously wrong” with then-President Donald Trump, whose “mental and psychological health was in decline,” according to Pelosi’s recollection of her conversations with experts.
“I’m not a doctor,” the former House Speaker writes in her impending tell-all, “but I did find his behaviors difficult to understand.”

Pelosi goes on to note that she did not approach these experts at the memorial service to intentionally solicit their opinions of the state of Donald Trump’s mental health and cognitive acuity — apparently, they just found it so troubling, that they felt the need to speak up when the opportunity presented itself.
Further into the book, Pelosi goes on to refer to the now scandal-plagued and felony-convicted former president and 2024 Republican presidential nominee as “imbalanced” and “unhinged.”
When it came to the topic of the infamous January 6th Capitol insurrection, Pelosi wrote, “I knew Donald Trump’s mental imbalance. I had seen it up close.”
“His denial and then delays when the Covid pandemic struck, his penchant for repeatedly stomping out of meetings, his foul mouth, his pounding on tables, his temper tantrums, his disrespect for our nation’s patriots, and his total separation from reality and actual events. His repeated, ridiculous insistence that he was the greatest of all time.”
Nancy goes on to point the finger at one-time House Rep. and Donald’s now-former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows as one of the driving forces and biggest enablers of Trump’s unhinged behavior, as Meadows allowed the then-president to “surreptitiously listen” in on private meetings.
Ultimately, Pelosi said she was left with no choice but to ban cell phones from any meetings in her office, to stop the bleeding of information to Donald Trump.
Pelosi once again hails back to the horrifying, deadly January 6th attack, writing that she has often been asked how she managed to remain so calm.
“My answer is that I was already deeply aware of how dangerous Donald Trump was,” Pelosi blisters through her pen.
“He continues to be dangerous,” she continued. “If his family and staff truly understood his disregard for both the fundamentals of the law and for basic rules, and if they had reckoned with his personal instability over not winning the [2020] election, they should have staged an intervention. Whether because of willful blindness, money, prestige, or greed, they didn’t – and America has paid a steep price.”
“It was clear to me from the start that he was an imposter – and that on some level, he knew it.”
This is, of course, very far from the first time Donald Trump’s mental cognizance has been brought into question.
In fact, reporters Peter Baker and Susan Glasser penned a 2022 tell-all that exposed the fear and concern about Donald’s mental fitness among his own senior administration officials almost immediately after he took office. According to the pair, Trump’s own Cabinet officials began holding tentative discussions about the then-president’s mental state and the possibility of invoking the 25th to remove Donald Trump from office “within months” of seeing him on the job.
Nancy Pelosi’s book, The Art of Power: My Story as America’s First Woman Speaker of the House, is scheduled to be released by Simon and Schuster next week.
