Donald Trump spent Saturday afternoon at a crypto conference in Palm Beach, telling investors he wanted to beat China at the industry, before boarding Air Force One for Washington and the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Photographers at the airfield noticed his right hand before he said a word. It was covered in a thick layer of pale concealer that did not quite match his skin tone and did not quite cover the bruising underneath.

The hand has attracted notice before.

The White House has attributed the recurring bruise to Trump’s high-dosage aspirin regimen and the volume of handshaking his schedule requires.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed it last summer with characteristic enthusiasm: “President Trump is a man of the people, and he meets more Americans and shakes their hands on a daily basis than any other president in history. His commitment is unwavering, and he proves that every single day.”

The bruise, by that account, is a badge of democratic engagement. The concealer is apparently optional.

Saturday’s photos showed the makeup applied heavily enough to attract its own attention, which is the opposite of what concealer is designed to do. The bruising showed through regardless.

An April 2025 medical update from White House physician Captain Sean Barbabella said Trump was in “excellent cognitive and physical health” and fully capable of carrying out the duties of commander-in-chief. The medical report covered cognitive fitness. It did not address the concealer situation.

The hand bruise exists alongside a broader set of acknowledged conditions.

In July 2025, the White House confirmed Trump had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that reduces blood flow in the extremities and primarily affects people over 70. It is cited as the reason for his noticeably swollen ankles, which have been widely photographed straining against his shoes.

The hand made its public appearance on a day Trump had considerable other business. Saturday’s Correspondents’ Dinner marked his first-ever attendance as president, ending a years-long boycott that made him the only president in the event’s century-long history not to attend at least once while in office.

He arrived with a reported plan to deliver a media attack and exit before the journalism awards, specifically before the Wall Street Journal collected its prize for the Epstein birthday letter reporting. The concealer, under those circumstances, was the least of the evening’s preparations.

Jimmy Kimmel, hosting an alternative correspondents’ event across town, addressed the hand directly in his opening remarks: “Don’t worry if we bruise your ego, it’ll only make your hands look less disgusting.” The line received considerable applause from an audience that had been following the bruise situation for the better part of a year.
