Watch Video: JD Vance Gets Distracted By His Phone In The Middle Of A Speech— ‘Ummm. It’s Not The President’

Well, that was odd

On Wednesday in Milwaukee, JD Vance paused his own speech to look at his phone, told the crowd it wasn’t the president calling, and left everyone else to guess who it actually was.

Vance was wrapping up prepared remarks at the 128th Air Refueling Wing, about to hand the floor to local reporters, when he glanced down at his phone instead. “I’m gonna take some questions here, but it’s funny sometimes people call, I gotta make sure it’s not the president, he’s over in NATO right now,” he told the room, eyes on the screen. A pause followed. “Umm… but let me start with the local reporters here,” he said, confirming it wasn’t Trump and moving on without saying who it was.

That moment of silence sparked exactly the reaction you’d expect online.

The stated purpose of the trip was fraud, specifically the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud that Trump created at his State of the Union and handed to Vance to run.

Milwaukee was the latest stop on a tour that’s already hit Bangor, Maine and Kansas City, Missouri, with Vance leaning heavily on the case of Markita Barnes, a local Medicaid provider convicted of pocketing $2.3 million by billing for prenatal care she barely provided.

He held her case up as proof the administration meant business, leaving out that Barnes was indicted under Biden nearly three years before the task force ever existed.

Even so, Vance used the case to draw a broader political contrast.

“We have a party that is fighting for fraud and a party fighting against fraud,” he said, arguing that any Democrat who votes against Republican anti-fraud legislation is effectively voting in favor of fraud.

He also announced that the Department of Labor is investigating abuse of the H-1B visa program.

“American jobs ought to go to American workers and not foreign fraudsters and the Department of Labor is fighting back against them,” Vance said.
